Happy August

While it’s only about 1:30 in the morning, it’s officially August.  July went by rather quickly.  I’m still in New York, I’m still searching for a job and I’m still working on straightening out my head so I can figure out exactly what I’m going to do with my life.  Numerous family members are sick, and while Sean and I have been at my father’s house this entire time, my father doesn’t seem bothered by the fact that we’ve both been here for as long as we have.  We’re hoping to figure things out as soon as possible but of course that requires some kind of a call-back from any of the positions I’ve applied for. Today was pretty busy for me.  I put in a lot of applications and I spent about six hours (straight – no breaks) working…

Still Moving

I’m still in the process of moving.  I now have about 30% of the accounts transferred over.  Hopefully by Wednesday (it’s Thursday now) everything should be completely transferred and then Sean and I can take on the daunting task of completely revamping everything.  I really should be doing that now but I’m very content with the current layout on agn-solutions.net.  The revamp would be the backend.  The new script we’re going to use is connected to the WHM so everything, account wise, is going to basically be automatic.  That works great when it comes to new customers, but when it comes to integrating the old ones we’re bound to have a little bit of an issue.  I will hopefully be able to get everyone setup without any problems, and it would definitely help with those of my clients who have…

Snails are passing…

While I wanted to slowly move everything over to the new host, I was hoping that it wouldn’t take over three weeks.  So I’ve decided to cash in on my 30 day money back guarentee and I’ve already got myself signed up with a new company that seems to have half a brain.  The downside is I typically would prefer to work with a company that’s located in America but I think Canada will do just as well at this point in time.  The resources that I need are pretty minimal so having to pay out of the nose for things just doesn’t seem like the logical thing to do right now. There were a lot of server issues with this move, the back-ups weren’t properly created so it set a massive server load that I’ve just spent the last…

Web Hosting Pal

With the horrible weather to hit the east coast this past week, it was no surprise to me when the servers went down. I kind of have them scattered about with different companies and the one located on the east coast was hit pretty hard with a nasty storm, borderline tornado. I know that there’s nothing I could control in that situation but now I’m thinking I need to move everything to a place where the biggest weather issue is the lack of rain. So after talking to Jackie I’m now looking for hosting companies based on the west coast. I’ve been poking around with Web Hosting Pal because they’re a fairly new resource where you can learn about a lot of different recommended web hosting companies. Their description is pretty true to form. They’re a user-friendly guide to finding…

Keeping Busy

I’m the kind of person who likes to keep myself busy. Unfortunately, for the past few days I’ve been busy trying to figure out how to stretch some bills around so I can take the little money I have and invest it in a new place to house my websites. I’m not talking about the server aspect of things, I’m talking more along the lines of my reseller account. I house all of my personal and business related sites on a different server. This way if something goes down it’s easy for clients to still get in touch with me. It was a move I made about 2 years ago and it’s worked out pretty well for me since then. Unluckily for me – I’m housing the sites with an absolutely horrible company but at the time it was all…

Spring Clean Up!

I just spent the last half hour going through the server removing quite a few accounts.  Some haven’t made payments, other’s expired and a few changed DNS information to new hosting.  In total I think about 300 accounts were removed, which is now bringing me to the conclusion of downgrading the servers.  I’m going to completely get rid of one and of the smallest account-count left, I’ll filter them out to the other ones.  It’ll save me a few hundred dollars a month that I don’t currently have.  It’d be easier to just add a terebyte of bandwidth to another server and push the domains in that direction.  It’d also be a lot cheaper. I’m also in the process of searching for a new data center, I really can’t stand the one I’m hosted with now and I believe I’ll…
