Social Ads Come to LinkedIn

Last June, the rapidly growing professional social networking site LinkedIn updated its privacy policy and made clear in that statement that social advertising was coming to LinkedIn, and that some personal information could be used in targeting these ads. “The effectiveness of these recommendations is related to the people in a trusted network that it is shared with,” wrote LinkedIn’s Eric Heath in the message, “and one of the upcoming privacy policy changes lets us share your public actions, like recommendations, following companies, etc. on the site with your business network in a commercial context such as an ad.” And so they did. While many on the Internet were sent into a dizzying rage at the thought of LinkedIn pulling “a Facebook,” the site did, to their credit, create an opt-out setting on accounts if users absolutely do not want…

Design for Display

Advertising designers walk a fine line. They must design ads that are attractive but direct and engaging. Often, success depends on the venue for which the ad will be designed and displayed. That being said, there are some places where display advertising has a significant edge over any other form of advertising – well worth the time and effort to design stunning ads. Display advertising has a distinct advantage over search. It doesn’t require searching. Display ads can be seen without a single keystroke and on just about any digital surface. That fact alone has helped reenergize the entire industry. Simply put, display advertising can go places search cannot. Promoting Your Business

One of my favorite things to do during the Spring and Summer months is head up to Laurel, DE and visit the local camp-grounds to look at trade show items. They vary from new ideas to ones that were improved on. I really enjoy finding new items, and I’m happy that I found a few resources online that will give me the opportunity to push my own.  There’s this site called Gimmees.com where they provide promotional products and trade show items for business owners and really just about anyone interested in promoting their product or brand. I floated around the Apparel and the Office section, I figure with business cards on hand and things like bumper stickers, shirts, caps and even pens – I can really push my design business to the local companies in the area. Word of mouth…

Marketing Strategies

I got pretty lucky today. As you know I’m looking to promote my business with something a little more unique than handing out business cards to anyone who’ll take them. I found a company called Gimmees.com, they specialize in Business Promotional Items. You can pick up anything you could possibly imagine to publicize your business and it’s not going to cost you thousands of dollars in bill-board advertising either. I was able to poke through everything from Apparel to Travel Accessories. I focused more on notepads and pens because that really does make the difference. Everyone can use a pen, you know? I was also looking into hats. Sean is always wearing a hat, why not plaster my company all over it to give him the option of advertising for me? I’m even thinking of printing up some shirts and…

Advertising Methods

I’ve been looking into numerous different ways to get my name out there for more business. Sure, I can drop off a stack of business cards at the supermarkets but who honestly pays attention to them? I need something with a bit more – creativity. I’ve noticed a trend in people paying more attention to large Signs instead of the small little cards. Maybe it looks like you can afford to put more into your business, maybe it’s that the population is slowly losing their eye-sight and small cards just aren’t seen. Either way there’s a big rise in car magnets and other decals that have really taken the world over by storm. Sean is looking to create one for his domain and put it on the back window of his car. I, using his car, don’t have this ability…
