European Vacation: Spain

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

Have you ever been interested in traveling the world? There are quite a few places of interest for me and all of them, oddly enough, fall in Europe. I’ve always had an interest in going to Italy because it’s where my family came from. After that I’ve been itching to get up to Ireland considering I’m more Irish than anything, I’m just unsure of where to start considering my family bounced around for many years before they settled in New York back in the early 1900’s.

Another place of interest for me is Spain, this is probably due to my four years of learning Spanish through High School. There are numerous websites on the Internet where you can find information on just about everything. The big one for me is the cost of the trip, I know that I want to get out there and I’m fully aware of what places I’d like to visit, but resources about hotels in Spain are the most important to me. I’ve looked through almost everything and found a few tourist guide related websites where I can look into information on hotels in Barcelona, hotels in Malaga and even hotels in Palma. All of these locations are high on my list when I do finally get over to Europe so being able to locate them easily online for all of the hotel information, and even the tourist information in general is always a great thing to have. Hopefully I’ll be able to actually plan with these resources, instead of just having them bookmarked for later use.

California?

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

I’m flipping through channels at the moment, finding something on TV at night is a difficult task at times.  The running theme is advertisements for California.  Now, I don’t know if they’re losing money in Hollywood but they’re really trying to increase tourism for some reason.  I haven’t been out there since I was about a year old, and I don’t know if I’ll ever make it out there again.

I do know that Sean is currently programming a social networking site for a man out there, he’s itching to get us out there to visit.  I’m sure we will some day, just not sure of it at this point.  I doubt I’m ever going to step foot onto a plane though, that scares the bejesus out of me.

Mobile Broadband

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

I’m currently in the process of searching for a mobile broadband company. Knowing that I’ll be spending quite a bit of time in the car over the course of the next few weeks, I’d like the ability to still have Internet access, no matter where we happen to be. I’ve narrowed it down to the two companies that are known the most for their mobility; Sprint and Verizon. I’m wondering if anyone has had either one of these services. Which would you recommend? Which gives the best bang for the buck? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Sprint has the PX-500 by Pantech Wireless for $9.99. It’s going to cost me about $59.99 a month for unlimited usage.

Verizon has the PC5750 PC Card for $49.99 at a cost of $59.99 a month. This requires a two year contract.

Now, while Sprint is looking to be the better of the two (price wise) I’m wondering if anyone has ever heard of a prepaid option through either of these companies? Knowing that it will really only be used for a few weeks, there’s no real point in my having to get a two year contract for it.

So what would you suggest?

Can you call in for vacation time when you’re self-employed?

It’s been pretty easy for me to get side-tracked while I’m on my quest for finding a home. Knowing that we really can’t do much until we know for sure that the loan is in our pockets, we’ve been thinking of all of the possibilities. But at the same time, we’re also considering a much-needed vacation considering how hard we’ve been working lately.
