Keeping Busy

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

I’m the kind of person who likes to keep myself busy. Unfortunately, for the past few days I’ve been busy trying to figure out how to stretch some bills around so I can take the little money I have and invest it in a new place to house my websites. I’m not talking about the server aspect of things, I’m talking more along the lines of my reseller account. I house all of my personal and business related sites on a different server. This way if something goes down it’s easy for clients to still get in touch with me. It was a move I made about 2 years ago and it’s worked out pretty well for me since then. Unluckily for me – I’m housing the sites with an absolutely horrible company but at the time it was all I could really afford. I initially purchased these plans about 5 years ago, before the “In Thing” to do was give customers a vast amount of server resources for practically no money. I don’t think it’s great to charge $10 a month for the resources one would get on a dedicated server, but since I don’t run things that way – it’s the reason I’m hurting. I don’t think anyone is ever going to use 10GB of disk space and 2TB of bandwidth every month, if their sites are that large they’ve got to be doing SOMETHING illegal. Whether it be photo hosting of copyrighted celebrity images, or just eating bandwidth by direct linking everywhere, something just isn’t right – in my eyes at least.

Either way this hasn’t stopped me from trying to move things around. While I’m looking into the best web hosting that I can find, I’m still making it a point to house my sites with a company that I know will be around for a while and has the proper systems in place for any and all downtime possibilities that my arise in the future.

Starting up a store…

Monday, March 17th, 2008

With the recent page rank drops, I’ve been looking into alternative forms of making money online. It’s not that I’m a one-trick pony and only depend on the Internet when it comes to some form of employment, I just know that no matter what I end up doing in life – a computer will be involved. Considering, of course, that they’ve taken over the world – you know?

I’m to a point now where I’m considering joining a program that you sell products for like 75% above cost and you keep the difference, my problem is the lack of ability to really sit down and focus on getting a program setup for me so I can just add as I go. Sure, I could just install something through cPanel and while I do know E-commerce, it’s a pain to have to do all of that. So why not go through a company that will setup everything you need in shopping cart software for you? So I went back in my search archives and I came across AShop, I’m sure I’ve mentioned them in the past but now I’m really considering using their services when I get myself signed up with a drop shipping company. Sure, there’s a lot of work involved but with the right advertising and a strong belief in myself, I’m confident that I could run a very successful business selling the cute trinkets that I’ve always loved to pick up over the years. Everything from glass figures to electronics and other goodies. I’d try to list as much as I possibly can for the best prices and cross my fingers that things actually worked out well for me.

I was thinking of starting on eBay first, setting up a store there. Then I’d go to the extreme of running my own. I’ve been running my own business for years but I never sold a product, I was selling a service (web design). This would be a whole new field for me to play around in and I think that there’s the chance of doing quite well with it.

Bad Credit Loans

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

For the last few hours I’ve been searching through websites with a focus on bad credit loans. The reason being, I’m broke. I desperately need a car and by no means make enough money at this point in time to really put a large down payment down and hope to finance through the bank. I know exactly how much money I make during the month and I also know how much is going out with bills and other key aspects of things to make ends meet. Naturally adding about $500 a month is going to be difficult but I’m willing to do it. The $500 a month would more than likely be the auto loan plus the car insurance, being as I’m under 25 it’s going to cost me around $120 a month in insurance, now this is will full coverage because an auto loan means there’s a lean on the car, so naturally if I’m in some kind of an accident I want to be completely covered. I think it may also be required with the loan terms, I would have to read more into that.

So the site I came across is badcreditoffers.com. They give me a breakdown on just about everything I need and send me to numerous other websites that will help someone with bad credit. Now, I keep saying bad credit as though I’m horrible with bills. It’s not that I have “bad credit” I have little to no credit. While I’ve had a credit card since I was 18, I never really did too much with it. I paid it on time but I also barely used it and paid cash for everything I need, mainly to avoid going into debt. Right now I’m about $9,800 in debt but that’s due to my $8,000 personal loan with over $3,000 interest to pay back. It’s going to take me quite some time to pay them back but I do hope that if job interviews work out well for me in upcoming weeks, I’ll be able to give them double the payments every month and essentially pay the loan off faster. In my head it all works out pretty well, that doesn’t mean it’s how things are actually going to happen – I’ll say that much.

Feeling that itch…

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

I love going to casinos. I think it is because the first time I went I won over $6000 and was able to buy everyone really nice Christmas gifts that year. I just wish I could get up to Atlantic City more often. It isn’t so much about the actual casino than it is about the gambling and the possibility of winning big. I’d really enjoy it if I could go to an online casino, but I can’t due to where I live. Online casinos have all the traditional casino games so it would be just like sitting in a real casino, but without all the noise. Everytime I go I hear bells for a week, it is really annoying.

Eventually I would like to take Sean and go to Vegas. There’s a lot to do in Vegas besides gambling, and I think Sean would have a blast (he doesn’t like loosing money), but I would mainly go to hang out in a Vegas casino. I have been intrigued by it ever since I saw Vegas Vacation and they won all those cars. Maybe I would be able to win a car.

Domain Registration

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

I’m kind of unhappy with my current domain registration reseller so while I’m also looking around for a new web hosting company, I’m also looking into registrars as well. There are quite a few different companies out there that are both higher and lower in price than the one I’m currently working with. While I have come across valuable companies like paylessdomains.com.au, I have to say that there are ones that are a bit cheaper in pricing as well. At the same time, anything under $12.00 seems to be on the low-end considering the jack-up in pricing on domains lately as well. I guess the economy is really beginning to take it’s toll on the virtual world as well. Cost of living has gone up and you can no longer offer domains for lower prices because you couldn’t possibly live like that. And it’s easier to maintain $12.00 a year instead of having to spend over $300 to get a domain back if it happens to expire. I don’t think pricing like that is fair either, obviously some pockets are being lined.

It’s no better than the domain-hoarders though. They’ll register every single domain name they can think of and then attempt to sell you the domain for an extravagant price. For example, when I first looked into a new personal domain I knew that I wanted to have krissy as the main text. So I searched through krissy.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz and every other extension available. The only one left was krissy.nu and that costs me about $60 every two years. So yes, $30 a year is no different then going through network solutions directly, but at the same time it’s a bit expensive for a domain name that includes nothing but a .nu extension.

However, when I went to inquire the current owner of krissy.net about how much it would cost for the domain, he told me I could have it for $1500. Meanwhile he registered it for, at most, $9 per year. No matter where you go these days, online and off, you’re going to get ripped off and I think that’s a shame. If it were possible to trademark the term “Krissy” and demand that those domains were released to me then I’d probably do it just to prove a point, but who has the time to trademark a nick-name? I’m not even sure if that’s legal.

Looking for Quick Cash?

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

At any given time you could be someone who falls victim to a cash flow problem. A medical bill, damage to your car that insurance won’t cover, the possibilities are endless. When getting an advance on your paycheck isn’t possible, you have the option of looking into a payday loan. This means you’re given up to $1500 between paychecks and you then have a certain amount of time before you need to pay the loan back. It’s not a traditional loan where you can have up to 60 months with a fixed interest rate. Typically you have 2 months – at the absolute most – to pay your loan back. There are many sites out there where you can apply for this type of a loan but at the same time it’s hard to find one that’s secure. Giving up your bank account information can be a scary deal so trying to find reliable source can be pretty hard. But if you’re lucky enough to come across a resource like cashadvance1500.com you’re instantly on the right track.

This site gives you a list of several marketing sites on the internet where you can apply for a Cash Advance and Payday Loan. This is an alternative to bouncing a check, selling personal property for less than its worth or uncomfortable situations like borrowing money from family and friends. It’s a very simple process and in most cases the money is in your bank account by the following day, no matter when you apply. If you’re in a bind for money than this is certainly the option to take.

Top USA Online Casinos

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

I’ve been poking around a new site in dedication to top usa online casinos.  It’s a pretty basic looking site when you first load it but it’s pretty in depth once you start poking around the different sections.  I looked into Rushmore Casino first because it’s at the top of the list with a 9.8% rating.  I assume it’s a 1-10% rating on the sites involved.  You get a full break down of everything from the overall rating to software rating, trust factor and even bonus and promotions.  There is also a quick review of the casino by the site owner of topusaonlinecasinos.com, giving you even more of a break down of what you can expect before you even travel to the online casino of interest.  I’ve floated around quite a few casino based websites in the past but this is because of my love of winning money every time I head out to a real casino.  I always do very well on video poker, not quite sure why either. It’s harder to win at video poker than it is at an actual casino but I’ve still made some money here and there anyway.

While the initial design of the site is fairly decent, when you get further into the reviews you wonder if the designer could have added more padding to the content areas.  Everything is kind of mushed together, but all in all it’s not that bad looking – it’s just my personal design taste coming out.  When you’re paid quite well to design others websites, you start to think of all of the changes you’d make to the sites done by others, constructive criticism so to speak – I don’t know.

Save Buckets!

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

With the move to Ohio coming closer and closer for us, I’ve been doing a lot of comparison shopping on numerous sites.  The one I’ve been floating around for the last few days now is savebuckets.co.uk, you can compare pricing on everything from mp3 players to household items, even pet related items as well.  I do a lot of shopping in the electronics sections though.  As far as everything house-based is concerned, I know what I need and I know where I’m going to get it.  My big focus these days is figuring out what television to buy, and where to buy it.  Numerous people have told me to just walk into Best Buy but I want to make sure that it’s not only a good price, but a good television to boot.  It’s hard to find out the truth about things from those working on commission to make the sale so naturally I’m going to look towards consumer reviews, long before I even look into price comparison, but that’s just how I do things.

In any event, bargain shopping is always fun.  Then again, this is coming from someone who spends a lot of time in Dollar Tree.  If it weren’t for the items that I fell in love with at Walmart for my new kitchen, I’d probably load up on plates and glasses through Dollar Tree, it may only be $1 plates, but they’re heavy duty plates that stand up to basically everything.  From dishwasher to microwave, they don’t chip or fade.  Yea, I love bargains.

Window Treatments

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

We know from the get-go that the office is going to be kind of small so we’re taking a chance and going to knock the wall out completely.  This will then connect the office to the living room and should hopefully give us more space to move around, this way we aren’t sitting there feeling claustrophobic.  The problem with taking this wall out is the lack of privacy that either one of us would have while in the office, so while it will be opened up for quite some time, I have the bright idea of a hospital room sitting in my head.  I figure we can install tracks along the ceiling to hang simple curtains from and then we can keep it all nice and closed off when we want to hide the room from company or something.

That’s just one set of curtains though, there are also going to be some nice ones on the windows as well.  I’ve been looking into a lot of the heat sensitive ones.  The ones that block out the heat in the summer but keep it in the house during the winter.  This to me is important in regards to the energy bills.  If we have the ability to keep the house cooler in the summer without having to run the AC for 24 hours a day, and warmer in the winter where the furnace isn’t being overused all winter long should really cut down on the bills.

I’ve been looking into blinds as well, there aren’t a lot of windows in this place but the ones that are there are HUGE so having some kind of privacy wouldn’t be such a bad deal.  I don’t like the old plastic slats one though, I’d like to have the cloth ones that kind of scroll up in one solid sheet.  I’ve also found the ones that load in reverse to be pretty cool.  You can still have the privacy you want but the top of the shades can be opened up so you can still get the extra light in there.

Lots of planning and very little time.

Home Modification

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

There are going to be a lot of modifications coming up over the course of the next few weeks. We’ll be doing everything from knocking out a few walls to open the rooms up to garage conversions if there’s one even attached to this place.  I’m also looking into some new windows because lord knows how long the original ones have been there.  We know that recently the house went under some major reconstruction.  The pipes were moved around because they kept freezing so hopefully that has been resolved.  There’s the chance of new carpet, but my big thing was the fact that all major appliances have been upgraded as well.  Everything in the kitchen is new, and the furnace has been replaced as well.

I like doing modifications around the home, I always have.  Yes, there’s the option of having an outside company doing it, which is something I highly recommend considering there are many people out there who have no idea as to what they’re doing.  I like getting my hands dirty though, I can’t wait until the spring rolls around to I can start a nice little garden for myself.  I just hope that I don’t have to deal with other peoples dogs on my property because I would hate to plant some lovely flowers and then wind up having to deal with dog poo everywhere.  Contrary to popular belief, it’s really not fertilizer. :sigh:
