Rodan + Fields
So I thought that I would introduce the company that I recently partnered with; Rodan + Fields Dermatologists (yes, the creator’s of Pro-active). I recently had a bouncing baby boy, and like many others in these economic times found that it was actually more finacially straining for me to go back to work. So my husband and I went from a two person, two income household to a three person, one income household. I just had to find something I could do to generate any additional income possible, while taking care of my baby full time. But what the heck could I possibly do that wouldn’t be a scam and cause us to lose even more money.
Well, I had a dear friend from high school that I had lost touch with, but with the power of facebook and twitter we were once again good friends. She kept inviting me to these girl nights out, and of course there was a catch. The catch was this, enjoy some nice wine, good finger food, and lovely women…..and listen to a business presentation. Really! I just want the first three…..NO PRESENTATIONS, PLEASE! Every time she asked I declined, mostly because I was pregnant and didn’t feel like it, but I also didnt want anything to do with her business. I had previously put my eggs into another direct marketing business and did nothing but spend money and never received a single commission check in a little over two years. I was NOT going to get involved. I did, however, want the product and was willing to buy retail.
Needless to say, by the time my son was three months old, I could no longer decline. Mostly because it was just plan rude at this point. I had come up with every excuse in the world….”Im pregnant and my skin will change, I don’t want to purchase now and then have to purchase more”…..”My husband is working, and I don’t have a car”…..and so on. This dragged on for a little over a year. So I finally went to a girls night out, and this is what I found out.

OK, I said to myself….what’s the catch, the gimmick, the money I would have to shell out? Well, as I stated before, I just wanted product. Nothing more, nothing less. I had a skin consultation, was provided with the products that I would need to get me back on track to the beautiful skin I always loved. Sure there were additional products that I would love to have, but I just needed the bare minimal and least expense. The cost was not unusual for a high end product, but it was pricy for me due to our new income situation. Then I decided to take a look at the cost of becoming a consultant. After all I was already there and sat through the presentation that I so didn’t want anything to do with. I discovered that the products I needed and the products I wanted, but couldn’t add to my basket just yet, were in the package (and so much more) that arrives to you once a consultant, and it was only $50 more than I was spending.
So I am one of those “I want instant gratification” kinda girls, and I wanted my new face wash sooo bad. But I decided that I wanted it all for the extra $50 bucks. I wrote up my order, handed my friend my credit card and made a deal. Give me another month to come up with some extra money and sign me up as a consultant. If I can not commit at the same time next month as a consultant, then bill me for only the product at retail. Well, I wanted that package so bad, and was hanging onto the hope that I could generate an income from home with my baby, that I sold pies. Yes, I said it…PIES! It just so happened that it was right around Thanksgiving, so I posted on my facebook that I was making and selling pies. I had only a handfull of orders, which was not going to make me what I wanted, but it was a good start. One thing led to another, and I wound up with a pie order for a local restaurant that had me seeing $$. I was so excited! I could become a consultant and get all the fun stuff along side my original products. Yippie! Yippie!
Now, I know you are wondering….why not just keep up the pie business. Well, honestly, I will always have passion for baking and will always accept an order.(if you ever need any baked goods, you know to contact…wink, wink) However, pies are not in demand year round and there is no guarantee someone will need cupcakes everyday of the week. Although, in my next life I am going to open a pie shop!
Back to my story….
I am now a consultant! Because it was the holidays and I was traveling for the first time with a baby, I didn’t have time to work on my new business. I literally spoke to three people. Those three people wanted the product as bad as me, and the very next month my first commission check arrived. I was not expecting much since I didn’t do any real work. To my surprise it was enough to replace 80% of what I spent to get my package! I could not believe it, and even more, I could not wait to show it to my husband! I told him “see what good things come to those that support their wives ideas” then I of course stuck my tongue out at him.
Since then, I just keep getting a commission check every month. No matter what! Even if I didn’t make a single sale the month before.
