Come Monday I’ll be doing some pretty heavy duty holiday shopping. I don’t like waiting until the last minute, by then it’s slim pickings at almost every store, everywhere. I did read that more than 30% of all of the holiday shopping this season will be done online so I want to assume that there won’t really be many people at the mall this coming Monday. I’m just going to cross my fingers in hopes that I’ll be able to find everything I’m looking for. Sean is fairly easy to shop for, but he drops hints for quite some time around any gift-giving celebration. Me on the other hand, all I really want is a Mac. I doubt that’s going to happen but it’s worth the wish.

Oh Joy!
Wednesday, November 28th, 2007You’re kidding me, right?
Sunday, November 25th, 2007Last night Sean and I went over to the tree lighting downtown. Driving down the main strip you’re greeted with gorgeous lights wrapped around the poles, and even the mechanical reindeer that many people have on their lawns during the Christmas season. All of the store fronts are filled with lights and over crowded with people looking to see the tree from every possible location on the street surrounding the tree. Then you hear the countdown and turn your head as quickly as possible expecting to see something spectacular, you then realize it wasn’t worth the trip.
Now, I don’t want to sound stereotypical or anything but I live in a very “hip” beach town. More than 50% of the population is homosexual, of that 50% it’s more male than female. Now, the fashion sense in these residence can blow anyones mind. Sometimes I feel like I’m walking through San Francisco in CA and not Rehoboth in DE, but that’s besides the point. The streets are done up nicely, all of the bars and storefronts are done up nicely, even the benches are trimmed for the holiday season. So why in gods name is the main attraction the WORST thing on the block? It’s about a 40-foot tree, I believe. It’s not like we’re watching the Rockefeller Center lighting or anything but you would at least thing that the lights would be wrapped around the tree – and not just dropped down from the top and strung along as though it looks good. You’re supposed to wrap lights around a tree, you’re not supposed to have straight lines on just one side unless you’re completely LAZY.
It upset my Christmas spirit.
Home is where the fleas are?
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007On Saturday we packed up a few suitcases as well as the dogs and headed to a hotel in the area. Karen and I dropped a bomb in the house and Sean couldn’t be around for it because the dust in the air would be enough to kill him with how bad his asthma is. Now, I’d personally prefer to just drop a fogger from Walmart and call it a day but she (who reads too much into EVERYTHING) is convinced that the fogger would either kill the dogs or not kill the fleas and a whole other mess of misinformation that she picked up from one of her Google searches. So she picked up this product called “Flea Busters” and we spent a good 2 1/2 days getting the house back in order so that we could at least step foot into the door and not itch like crazy.
Saturday night we started bombing but didn’t finish until about 11pm. On Sunday night we came back here at about 10pm so we could start the laundry and begin vacuuming things up. I did the vacuuming, she did the washing. Even now we’re still moving clothes around and figuring out where to put them until we can finish bombing the final areas in the house (closets mainly).
On Monday she checked out of her room early so she could get to work, a little while later hubby and I checked out of our room and picked up some breakfast then came back here. Within about a minute of walking into the house Sean had a HORRIBLE attack and needed to be hospitalized. As of right now he’s doing OK, he’s been sleeping it off and was given some medication for any future issues. Hopefully there aren’t any.
What are your plans?
Thursday, November 15th, 2007Thanksgiving is around the corner, Sean and I are going to spend a quiet evening at home with a Turkey, all the fixings and of course Bella waiting patiently under the table for scraps of food to fall. I’m still behind on getting things accomplished due to a lack of a computer these days. We’re in the process of packing up the house so we can bomb and my only computer as of right now is the desktop, so that’s why I’m sitting on Sean’s right now. My laptop is on the verge of death, the battery is dying on me and the wireless doesn’t wish to work for me. The desktop is completely packed up so there’s only one option for getting anything done and that’s waiting very patiently until Sean goes to bed so I can hop online and get some kind of work done.
I do have things waiting for me, I just don’t really have the time or the resources to accomplish anything. I hate that it’s come down to that but I’m slowly stepping away from things these days, in more than one aspect of my life, and the computer really doesn’t mean much to me anymore, not that it meant much to begin with other than a paycheck at least.
Behind…
Saturday, November 10th, 2007I know I haven’t been around much but there’s a lot going on with family as well as the living situation right now, so it’s certainly taking it’s toll on me.
I’m still in search of a home for hubby and I. We got the unfortunate news that the complex we were looking to move into is currently between owners and no one really knows what the outcome will be when the new owners finally do get their hands on the grounds there. So we’re back to looking in Delaware, we’re not overly happy about it but there’s obviously a reason as to why we’re staying in this state, hopefully we’ll figure it out.
So I did keep the loan but we’re banking on it to give us even more money to put towards a down payment in the general area. Come January I’ll have a job out of the house, I’ll still do the design work and posting and what not I just need medical benefits so I’m pumping up my resume and sending it around to a few offices in the area. I know my way around a computer, anyone can work a phone so maybe something secretarial will do just fine for me. There are a few design companies in the area, I’ve just seen some of the work they do and am afraid to step foot in their office, I’d probably wind up reorganizing them, or just teaching them a thing or two about what real websites look like. They’re playing up on the fact that their clients are idiots and completely exploiting it with the most ridiculous looking websites in the free world. How anyone can sleep at night after doing something like that, is completely beyond me.
Not half bad…
Saturday, November 3rd, 2007I’m not really an extreme shopper, even if I had a few million in the bank I’d continue to enjoy the wonderful world of Walmart and other fine discount stores. Why? Because there’s no real reason to spend money on things that you’ll rarely use. I don’t see the point in someone spending $150 on a pair of sneakers that are just going to get dirty anyway, but hey that’s my Payless Shoe Source mentality talking here. I’m also speaking in regards to personal usage, when it comes to the business world this is a completely different story.
Those who work in any profession when they’re on their feet all day, or just walking through slippery areas depending on how the non-carpeted halls are in your facility, investing in a proper pair of shoes is obviously the right route to take. Take nurses for example, you’ll never see them wearing $10 clogs from Payless because they offer no kind of support and are even worse as far as traction is concerned. So there are companies out there like Metboots.com that offer product lines such as Dansko in a fairly affordable price range for shoes that not only are comfortable but somewhat attractive depending on what you’re partnering them up with. For me personally a pair of black clogs with a set of scrubs is something that only a nurse can pull off.
Take me to the Beach…
Saturday, November 3rd, 2007For the past month or so I’ve noticed that I’m in somewhat of a funk. Life is good right now so it’s not really an emotional funk, I’m just having trouble brainstorming ideas for new clients, as well as current personal projects. Up until the launch of the summer season down here, Sean and I spent quite a bit of time at the beach. I’m not sure what it is but there’s something about the way the waves hit the shore that spark my inspiration to astronomical levels. Now, going almost every evening did have a wonderful effect on me but when you don’t go for three months you’ve lost your ability to regain that inspiration you once bottled up inside for the rainy day. Right now I’m to the point of being completely drained. I can literally stare at Photoshop for three hours and not come up with a damn thing. I can’t even find anything online anymore because everyone has the same thing going on with their blogs. Businesses are no better considering they all find a template on templatemonster or another site like that so they basically all look the same. I want to come across something unique, I’ve even reverted to looking through scrapbooks to see templates that I’ve done with paper in the past in hopes to recreate them in Photoshop, but even that isn’t working out very well for me.
The remnants of tropical storm Noel are heading this way, by 2am there are going to be gusts of wind reaching the 60 MPH range and that just makes me wonder what kind of an effect that will have on the shore. I quietly asked Sean if we could head down to the beach tonight so we can get back into the swing of things but he’s so bogged down with work that he has no idea if that’s even going to happen. His boss sent him a major “To Do” list and he has to complete it tonight, I’m unsure of how in-depth this list is, it could just be quick corrections and he’ll have them done within the hour.
Either way it’d be nice to get out of here just to relax on the cold benches down at the shore right now. I know it’s cold and extremely windy but I can fight through that with a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate from 7-11 and just sit back and listen for a while. And there’s something about the beach that strengthens our relationship as well. Sure, we talk all day long but there’s always a boost of energy when we’re down at the beach that surprises us to this day. We can get through all of our problems, talk things out and the only outside influence is nature. It’s strange, but I don’t think we’d have it any other way.
With the upcoming move to Ohio there is a lot of unsettled emotions between the two of us. It’s not anything in particular but we’ve equally been on edge about things. The frustration of just wanting to get up and go, on top of not knowing if the person we’re trying to get a hold of is even OK at this point in time, let alone HOME for that matter. I’m sure we’ll work through it all eventually, but things were moving along very nicely for quite some time and now they’re at a standstill, so much so that I can’t even get any work done because my concentration levels are non existent.
This sucks.
Morpheus Photo-Morpher
Saturday, November 3rd, 2007
A few months ago I spoke of a program named Morpheus Photo-Morpher. While I don’t spend a lot of time morphing images together, I do enjoy playing around with the program whenever Sean and I take new pictures together. While we’ve only been together for a little over a year now, we know that in some way we were meant to be together, so it’s only natural that I keep some kind of a scrapbook for whenever we do things together. I have quite a few pictures of us from the beginning of the relationship until now and when you play with the points setup the way that Morpheus allows you to, it really does blow my mind with how cool the final products are.
It’s a pretty simple program to use, and doesn’t cost that much. But you load a few images into the template, setup a series of points on the images where you wish for them to morph and then kind of just go from there. It’s great for anyone looking to throw in some extra pizazz to an existing online photo album. There are a lot of sites out there where you can morph things around for free and place them up on your Myspace account, but you don’t get to morph the photos themselves, it’s more like filter screens that connect one photo to the next – no real “work” involved other than uploading and copying and pasting the final URL result to your profile. I like not having to deal with outsiders filters as well, that’s something I enjoy with this program. I can morph images together and then I don’t need to have the copyright information for an outside company that sucks because I didn’t get everything I was personally looking for when working on the image.
I’m not one to share personal photos, but if you didn’t already notice I attached a replica of what you can do with this program. You have two images here, a puppy and a cute little girl. You setup the series of points on the puppy where you’d like them to morph, and then by the time the image has completed the morph it looks as though the puppy has magically turned into the girl – it’s a pretty cool program.
Looking for a Camcorder
Saturday, November 3rd, 2007While it seems to be nothing more than an unnecessary splurge, Sean has been looking into purchasing a camcorder. He likes to video tape things, I honestly don’t see the point but I also don’t understand men and their toys either. I know that he’d like to video tape the road trips we’re going to be taking in the future, he’s also interested in video taping the process of renovating the new house, and just the quirky things that him and his brother tend to do together. It’s not like this will be plastered around YouTube or anything, it’s just for us to keep in our own personal digital archive.
We’re just unsure of what route to take, he wants a DVD recorder and those aren’t cheap but I don’t want to pull out one of those big bulky VHS ones that no one ever uses anymore either. I’m sure that I’d like to go with a company that I know of, such as Panasonic, but I’m really unsure as to which one I’d truly be interested in purchasing. We’ve set a budget of $250 because there’s no point in spending anymore than that. I’m not doing any eBay purchases, I never do when it comes to electronics, so any input would be greatly appreciated here.
What kind of camcorder do you own?
How much did you spend on it?
Would you recommend it to others?
Does it require any outside memory cards?
And anything else you’d like to throw in about it.
Online Universities
Friday, November 2nd, 2007For quite some time now I’ve been looking to go back to school and there are numerous options out there that have kept me interested but thanks to a few outside resources I was able to find out that the bulk of the schools I had in mind were nothing more than diploma scams and there isn’t one job in the US that will actually accept a degree from any of these colleges.
So I went back to the drawing board and I’ve come up with a few schools that I’m looking for an opinion on. There’s a lot of writing involved so I’ll narrow it down to the one that seems to offer the most for your dollar. Have you ever heard of capella university? Based on what I’ve read about it, it was founded in 1993 and over 20,000 students currently attend this school. It’s an online university that offers graduate online degree programs as well as bachelor’s degree programs as well. I’m looking to extend my associates and pick up a bachelors in internet technology but I’ve been having some trouble finding anything even remotely close to what I’m looking to do.
If you know anything about capella, could you give me a little 411? I’m lost.
