OQO model 02

UMPC - OQO It’s one heck of a sequel. The one-pound OQo model 02 features a much faster processor than its predecessor, a 1.5-GHz VIA CPU, yet it remains the most compact UMPC on the market. A bright five-inch VGA LCD screen slides up to reveal an enhanced backlit keyboard with improved tactile feedback, perfect for entering Web addresses and responding to e-mail on the fly using the built-in mobile broadband connection. Take your pick of Sprint or Verizon Wireless, both of which offer EV-DO connectivity. You can also use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0.

The model 02 trumps the UMPC field because of its superior design and ergonomics. It’s slim enough to slip into a coat pocket but is easy to use anywhere. A track stick and two mouse buttons make cursor control a cinch, while capacitive Touch Scrollers surrounding the screen enable smooth scrolling. The VGA screen also has an active digitizer that works with a pen. Other key features include a 60GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, and a USB port and HDMI port. Throw in a relatively strong four hours of battery life and an optional $399 docking station – complete with slot-loading DVD burner – and you have the best UMPC money can buy.
